the charities
The impact of our efforts in 2009 were far greater than any of our volunteer crew had first imagined. It became so personally rewarding, that our journey had enriched the lives of so many people and communities along the way.
When embarking on a 7000 mile trip to donate vehicles to worthwhile charitable projects, we made time and created opportunities to stop at schools and community projects in different countries along the way. We were able to supply books , pencils and soft toys that had been collated by the team. A truly wonderful and genuinely appreciative welcoming of our assistance met some of our Volunteer team with offers to become School Presidents and life long friends.
Our charities that received the donations of vehicles were
- Operafrica, a touring opera singer who funds a healthcare centre in Gambia. (2 Vehicles) www.operafrica.com
- Sight Savers International, who run a mobile clinic in Gambia. (1 Vehicle) www.sightsavers.org
- Sight Savers International- Mali, who run mobile clinics to treat river blindness and carry out vision and cataract tests. (2 Vehicles) www.sightsavers.org
- Village by Village, a charity that works in Ghana building wells, schools, trade links and sanitation. (2 Vehicles) www.villagebyvillage.org.uk
- Sabre Charitable Trust in Ghana, who build and maintain schools and healthcare centres. (1 Vehicle) www.sabretrust.org
The Charities were overwhelmed with the supplies and vehicles that our 2009 charity drive had brought them and have asked us to help them again this year.
Our volunteer crew that made the 2009 trip continue to help and support these charities through fundraising efforts, even though some have commitments that prevent them from completing the journey personally in 2010.
Statistically 1,000,000 children die each year from malaria in Africa and 1 in 6 women die as a result of complications in childbirth in Mali alone.
Please Help us, Help them, to improve the hospitals and healthcare and educate the communities about their own well being, to increase the chances of many surviving illness and preventing unnecessary demise and debilitation.
We are going next January to help the same charities again if you want to help or join us, call Glen on 07980 743691 or email glen@glenmckeith4x4.co.uk.
